August 2, 2008

Well it is almost time for school to start again. As always I am not ready to send my kidos back to school. I like having them home. Jessica starts HS this year YIKES! Time is going by so fast. Also, I am concerned about Austin's teacher this year. She tends to not be very patient with the children. Its concerning knowing your child will be in a class room 5 days a week 7 hours a day. They have a huge influence on the child. The principal will not budge in changing him to another class. He wants us to wait for 2 weeks. I think it stinks royally. We will have to see how it goes.

Newport with the Barney Family

July 20, 2008

Today we went to church in Newport California. We made a family commitment to stay for church the whole time, even if the rest of the Barney Family would not be staying. Some of the kids struggled with the idea and did not think we were very fair, but not Austin, he disappeared and then he came back to let us know that he found the primary room. We went in with him. The primary leader came up and said you have a very confident son he came in and said "Excuse me, I have a question. I am 8 years old and I was wanting to know what class I should go to?" Interesting enough my lesson in relief society ended up being on obedience and keeping the sabbath day holy.
Josh came up to us after church was over (he had a rough time getting to class at first) and said that was the best Sunday experience he had ever had at church. He said he felt so accepted by all of the kids and that he had felt the spirit so strong. I just think he had been nervous going into a class room of kids that he did not know. I'm glad for the kind primary children of the Newport ward. They made an uncomfortable experience for Josh into a blessing for all of us. What a great life lesson that was taught to each of us today. I'm glad we chose to stay for church the whole time. :)
After church we went and walked around the temple. It was a great day!!!

Jaci HAS HER DRIVING PERMIT YIKES!!!

Today was a fun day! Jaci just received her driving permit. She went with two friends Brooke Smith and Jamie Day who also took the test. She only missed one question and she blamed her teacher for teaching her the wrong answer :) hee hee... She is excited to be able to practice driving. I drove with her around the neighborhood tonight. She did a great job. I have mixed emotions. I am excited for her to be able to help with the driving. However the thought of her being out there on the road gets a little scary. One thing about Jaci though is she is a responsible person and she will do a great job. Its the other people driving on the road that worry me...

Tender moments of thoughts

We have decided to really focus our efforts on having our family time every Monday. After the last General Conference I received the strong impression and realization of how quickly time is going and that we needed to cherish the moments we have left with our little family. So we decided to faithfully put aside Monday nights for our family time together. Every night seems to be crazy with all of the different directions we each go with church meetings/activities, band, Softball, Gymnastics, Cheer, Football, tutoring, homework, etc... the list goes on and on. So tonight as we were all together it felt soooo good to have us all there. I looked around and it was such a great feeling not one child gone. We all talked about the conference talk that Elder Oaks gave just this last conference on all the things that we do each day and how we need to decide if they are good, better or BEST!!! All the things we had been doing on Monday nights were good but tonight was the BEST!!! Being there with my sweet wonderful family... I will never forget the memory of this night together with not one of us gone. I LOVED TONIGHT it was the BEST!!!
